Wastewater Treatment Process Wastewater or sewage from households is usually removed any contaminants present in it through a treatment process. There are large scrappers found in the settlement tanks whose purpose is to scrape off the solid waste at the bottom of the tank and get them to another compartment for further treatment. There are aeration lanes in these treatment plants whereby wastewater is put once sludge has been scrapped off. The scrapping stage might cause small bits of sludge to get into the wastewater which are broken down further using bacteria present in the water.

The wastewater is then taken to a settlement tank during the final treatment stage. In the settlement tanks, the small bits of sludge goes to the bottom of the tank as soon as they are acted upon by bacteria. Once the process is over, the water is devoid of any harmful substances such as chemicals or toxins. Filtration is the final stage where wastewater goes through a wall made of sand in order to remove any additional particles.
